General Information

The easiest way to manage how iPads behave once deployed is with the use of a Restrictions configuration profile.

Create Configuration Profile

  1. From a web browser, navigate to
  2. Log in with your netadmin account’s credentials (usually net admin-LocationNumber). Do not use the full email address.
  3. On the left, click Devices tab.
  4. Click Configuration Profiles section.
  5. At the top-right, click + New.

Configure Payloads

General Tab

  1. In the Name textfield, input the name of the Configuration Profile. We recommend the naming convention “LocationNumber – Cart Name – Restrictions”.
  2. In the Category drop-down, select Restrictions.
  3. In the Distribution Method drop-down, select Install Automatically.

Restrictions Payload

  1. In the left column, click Restrictions.
  2. On the right, click Configure

For detailed explanation of Restriction settings, visit Apple’s MDM restrictions page.

Example of Not Including a Setting

Since no payload is included in the profile, both the camera and FaceTime will be allowed by default.

Example of Allowing Camera

This allows the camera. FaceTime will also be allowed, since no payload is included.

Example of Restricting Camera

This disallows the camera. Since FaceTime is a nested setting and requires the camera to be enabled, it cannot be used.

Example of Nested Restrictions

This allows the camera, but disables the use of FaceTime.

Configure Scope

  1. Click Scope tab.
  2. To the right, click + Add.
  3. Click Mobile Device Groups tab.
  4. To the right, click Add next to one of your cart’s Smart Group.
  5. At the top-right, click grey Done button.
  6. At the bottom-right, click Save.
