New Apple TV Setup

General Information

Apple TVs must be on tvOS 12.x or newer for the RapidLaunch app to function properly. If the RapidLaunch app fails to install, you will first need to upgrade the tvOS in Settings > System > Reset > Reset and Update > Reset and Update

Important Terms

  • RapidLaunch – An Apple TV app that was created by the district’s Apple Support department to facilitate the enrollment of Apple TVs

Unbox Apple TV

  1. Unbox the Apple TV.
  2. Connect the Apple TV to the projector through either HDMI or VGA
  3. Turn on the projector and switch to the proper input.
  4. Connect power. The Apple TV will boot automatically once power is connected.

Note: District approved HDMI to VGA adapter.

Setup Assistant

  1. At the Welcome screen, tap one of the remote’s buttons to begin the Setup Assistant.
  2. Use the scroll area on the remote to highlight English.
  3. Press down on the remote’s touch pad.
  4. Highlight United States.
  5. Press down on the touch pad.
  6. Highlight Continue.
  7. Press down on the touch pad.
  8. Highlight Use Siri.
  9. Press down on the touch pad.
  10. Highlight Set Up Manually.
  11. Press down on the touch pad.
  12. Highlight PCPS-Apple.
  13. Press down on the touch pad.
  14. Input the password: applesetup
  15. Highlight Continue.
  16. Press down on the touch pad.

The Apple TV will go through a series of screens and eventually land on the home screen. All apps except for Settings will be temporarily hidden and the RapidLaunch app will automatically install.

RapidLaunch App

  1. Using the remote, launch the RapidLaunch app.
  2. Enter your school or department’s 4-digit location number.
  3. Tap Done.
  4. Tap Continue.
  5. Tap the name field.
  6. Input the desired name of the Apple TV. For easier name input, Siri can be utilized.
  7. Tap Done.
  8. Tap Continue.
  9. Tap Complete.

The Apple TV will reboot. Once the RapidLaunch app uninstalls, the Apple TV is ready.
