General Information

In the case of an iPad leaving campus or if it is missing, Lost Mode locks the device and displays your custom messaging on the device’s Lock screen. GPS coordinates for the device’s approximate location are also displayed in the inventory information for the device.

Important Terms

  • Lost Mode – A feature of Find My iPhone that is available in iOS 6 or later. It locks your device, displays a custom message and turns on tracking so you can see its location, even if location services was originally disabled.

Enable Lost Mode

Find Device Record in Jamf

  1. From a web browser, navigate to https://polkfl.jamfcloud.com.
  2. Log in with your netadmin account’s credentials (usually net admin-LocationNumber). Do not use the full email address.
  3. Click Devices > Search Inventory.
  4. In the search field at the top, you can search by any of these criteria:
    1. Serial number
    2. SAP number (if provided)
    3. Username (if the iPad is assigned to a user)
  5. Make sure Mobile Devices is selected in the drop-down box.
  6. To the right, click Search.
  7. On the resulting search results, click on the blue name of the device.

Enable Lost Mode

  1. Click Management tab.
  2. Click Enable Lost Mode.
  3. In the Message text box, input a message to appear on the iPad’s lock screen.
  4. In the Phone Number text field, input a contact phone number where someone who found the iPad can contact you.
  5. (Optional) In the footnote text field, input any additional information you may want on the lock screen. This information appears at the very bottom of the iPad.
  6. Check Always enforce Lost Mode.
  7. Check Lost Mode Sound.
  8. Click Enable Lost Mode.

View Map Coordinates

  1. Click the Inventory tab.
  2. Click the Security section.
  3. Scroll down to the Lost Mode section.
  4. Locate the Approximate Location property.
  5. Highlight and copy the geolocation coordinates.
  6. From a web browser, open http://maps.google.com.
  7. In the top left search field, paste the coordinates and hit Enter. The approximate location of the device will be displayed with a red marker on the map.

Disable Lost Mode

  1. From a web browser, navigate to https://polkfl.jamfcloud.com.
